Real Life Superheroes Movement

Here is an interesting volunteer program which is rising in popularity due to the downturn of the economy. The Real-Life Superheroes is a grassroots movement that performs civic service in many different areas. Real Life Superheroes make an impact on their communities by doing civic activities, public safety patrols, crime fighting, charity work and other pro social acts.

If you are interested in learning more there is a great article from CNN at

Here are some site pictures from City Farm. There are more to come from the Good Neighbor Soup Kitchen and Bristol Parks and Recreation. This week I will also be visiting the International Institute of Rhode Island, Youth Pride, and a luncheon held by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce.

I am also currently working on editing the video footage I've taken to make a movie. It's a work in progress!

President Obama Calls for Summer Volunteers

The mission of the Scholarships for Service Recovery Progam falls directly in line with President Obama's United We Serve initiative. This summer, President Obama is calling on all of us – young and old, from every background, all across this country – to participate in our nation’s recovery and renewal by serving in our communities. From June 22 to September 11, United We Serve will begin to engage Americans from coast to coast in addressing community needs in education, health, energy and the environment, community renewal, and safety and security. Here is the link to the video of our President explaining the initiative: http://serve.gov/remarks.asp
